Mining Learning Officer – Technical Training Lead

About the role

Valterra Platinum is seeking a Mining Learning Officer to lead the execution and delivery of technical supervisory training across its underground operations. This role focuses on building operational competency, ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards, and supporting the company’s Skills Development strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct operational competency training, assessments and audits.
• Implement and supervise technical skills development for mining personnel.
• Develop outcome‑based workplace skills plans aligned with the operational Skills Development strategy.
• Maintain a technically sound competency framework and ensure legal compliance.
• Audit training material and delivery quality, incorporating feedback from line management.
• Provide guidelines for learning and development in mining and technical functions.
• Uphold safety, health and environment principles throughout training activities.
• Administer learning systems and ensure compliance with company and national requirements.
• Coordinate structured learnership initiatives and proactively identify risks to mine production.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mining or an equivalent qualification.
• Holder of a full blasting licence.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground mining operations.
• Proven ability to deliver mining technical skills training, including MBL and FBL.
• Experience with mobile equipment operation.
• Competence in mine HR systems, related legislation, and learning function systems.
• Computer literate, including SAP Learning.
• Clean Class 4 driver’s licence.
