Lecturer, Teaching Assistant and Ventilation Technician – Mining Engineering

About the role

Midlands State University’s Faculty of Engineering and Geosciences is recruiting qualified professionals for several positions in the Department of Mining Engineering at its Zvishavane Campus. The openings include two Lecturer posts, two Teaching Assistant posts, and one Ventilation Technician post.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials for undergraduate Mining Engineering modules such as Mine Survey & GIS, Mineral Resource Evaluation, and Surface Mining Technology.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and assess work‑related learning.
• Support student research, mark assignments, and assist with laboratory activities.
• Organise and manage ventilation and environmental engineering laboratories, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university service activities, including meetings, workshops and community engagement.

Required profile

• First degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field (minimum upper second‑class or 2.1).
• For Lecturers: a Master’s degree is required; a PhD is an advantage.
• For Teaching Assistants: enrolment in a relevant Master’s programme within the first year of employment.
• For Ventilation Technician: Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Mine Ventilation and Environmental Engineering with at least two years of relevant experience.
