Assistant Maintenance Manager

About the role

The Assistant Maintenance Manager will support the Chief Engineer in overseeing daily engineering operations at Hyatt Regency Harare. This hands‑on position ensures that all hotel facilities, equipment and grounds are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise engineering personnel and coordinate daily maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installations.
• Prepare and assign work orders based on workload, priorities and preventive‑maintenance schedules.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas and plant equipment to identify maintenance needs.
• Monitor utility consumption, energy‑conservation procedures and report non‑compliance.
• Maintain accurate checklists, documentation and monthly expense reports for the Engineering Department.
• Assist in the implementation of computerized preventive‑maintenance programs for HVAC, water‑treatment, laundry, hot‑water generation, kitchen and other plant assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree, diploma or journeyman certificate in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or Facilities Management.
• Minimum 3 years progressive experience in hotel or resort maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven ability to manage diverse systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, carpentry) and lead technical teams.
• Strong financial acumen for budgeting and expense reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a safety‑first mindset.
