Underground Fitter

About the role

Valterra Platinum is seeking an experienced Underground Fitter to join its Unki Mines operation in Shurugwi. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining and commissioning mechanical components of mining equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation in a demanding underground environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct and participate in risk assessments.
• Attend to breakdowns and emergencies as required.
• Ensure availability of materials, spares and equipment.
• Provide on‑the‑job training and coaching to subordinates.
• Comply with environmental requirements.
• Exercise judgment in the replacement of components.
• Record results of legal examinations in the appropriate format.
• Prioritise work requirements and complete job cards with details of work and spares used.
• Perform work to required standards and specifications using appropriate tools.
• Maintain equipment compliance with safety specifications and ensure safety devices are operational.
• Minimise downtime of units through effective maintenance.
• Keep checklists and inspections up to date and accurate.
• Assess employee competency and inspect completed and in‑progress work.

Required profile

• Minimum five O‑Level subjects including Mathematics, English and Science.
• Apprenticeship trained and certified as a Fitter (Class 1).
• At least 2 years of post‑apprenticeship experience in mechanical fitting.
• Willingness to work standby shifts and overtime.
• Familiarity with risk‑assessment procedures.
• Basic computer literacy.
