Team Leader – Underwriting (Harare, Zimbabwe)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to manage and develop a team of underwriters in Harare. The role combines leadership, underwriting expertise, and client relationship management to drive profitable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and mentor a team of underwriters to meet departmental targets.
• Prospect new business, conduct client meetings and negotiate terms.
• Oversee preparation and issuance of quotations, policies, endorsements and renewals.
• Ensure accurate processing of policies using Icecash and Zinara Licensing platforms.
• Monitor AML compliance and maintain documentation in the PURE system.
• Underwrite and approve complex risks in line with guidelines.
• Conduct risk surveys and implement risk management measures.
• Develop and manage sales pipelines, converting new opportunities and retaining clients.
• Maintain relationships with brokers, reinsurers and other stakeholders.
• Manage reinsurance arrangements and credit control processes.
• Assist with claims queries and identify process improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance and Risk Management.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in short‑term insurance, including underwriting and portfolio management.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience in an insurance environment.
• Strong knowledge of insurance regulations, AML requirements and industry best practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
