Underwriting Manager – Lead Underwriting Function

About the role

The Underwriting Manager will lead the underwriting function for a specialist digital non‑life insurer, ensuring disciplined risk selection, sound pricing and full regulatory compliance across all product lines. The role includes establishing underwriting standards, developing rating tools, driving new product development and registration, and overseeing the company’s reinsurance programme, with heightened focus during the fourth‑quarter treaty renewal period.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, price, and accept or decline risks across all approved product lines.
• Develop and maintain rating tools and pricing models.
• Monitor portfolio performance and loss ratios, implementing corrective underwriting actions as needed.
• Lead the development and regulatory registration of new insurance products.
• Manage facultative and treaty reinsurance arrangements.
• Provide underwriting insight and reporting to senior management and the Board.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Law or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as IIZ, ACII, AIISA or equivalent.
• Five to seven years of progressive short‑term insurance experience, including two to three years in a senior underwriting or technical role.
• Practical knowledge of the Insurance Act and IPEC product registration requirements.
• Experience working within a Core Insurance System environment.
