About the role
The Diagnostic Imaging Centre (DIC) in Harare is looking for a qualified Sonographer to deliver high‑quality ultrasound examinations at its two locations. You will generate accurate images and preliminary findings that support timely radiologist reporting while providing a safe, patient‑centred experience.
Key responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound scans (obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal, small parts, musculoskeletal, vascular and general) across both DIC sites.
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures, positioning them correctly and addressing any concerns.
- Verify patient identity, referral details and clinical history before each examination.
- Operate, calibrate and maintain ultrasound equipment, reporting any faults promptly.
- Capture, process, label and archive images and preliminary findings using PACS/RIS.
- Communicate urgent or abnormal findings to radiologists for rapid reporting.
- Coordinate personal scanning schedule and travel between sites to minimise patient waiting times.
- Maintain confidential patient records, scan logs and statistics in line with DIC policies and regulations.
- Follow infection‑prevention protocols, equipment hygiene standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Participate in quality‑assurance activities, equipment checks and continuous professional development.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography from a recognised institution.
- Post‑graduate qualification or specialised training in Medical Ultrasound / Sonography.
- Registration with the Allied Health Practitioners Council (or equivalent professional body).
- Willingness to work across two sites in Harare on a scheduled basis.
Required skills
- Diagnostic ultrasound examination techniques.
- Operation and calibration of ultrasound equipment.
- Use of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) for image management.
- Patient preparation and communication.
- Infection control and equipment hygiene practices.
