Senior Nurse - UN Staff Health Clinic, Harare

About the role

The UNDP Nurse NSPA 7 position supports the health and wellbeing of UN staff and their dependents in Zimbabwe through medical care, emergency management and health promotion. The Senior Nurse provides high-quality nursing care, manages emergency cases, assists in health promotion, ensures clinic efficiency and supports the UN Physician. The post reports to the UN Physician and works with the clinic staff, UN Common Services and the operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and assist patients and clients, give advice on medical services and translate between English and Shona or Ndebele
• Treat minor ailments, manage emergency cases, dispense prescriptions including injections and immunizations, and refer patients to specialists
• Collect laboratory samples, keep patient records safe and confidential, and maintain medicines and equipment
• Plan and run health promotion programmes for UN agencies in Zimbabwe, produce clinic reports and supervise clinic processes
• Mentor other clinic staff, administer petty cash and handle administrative duties assigned by the UN Physician
• Refer patients to other doctors and escort them to local hospitals or evacuation to South Africa when needed

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in nursing with additional qualification in Anesthesia, ICU, Midwifery or Theater training
• Knowledge of the UN Staff Regulations and Rules and UN policy on ethics
• Ability to work across units and projects in multidisciplinary teams
