Research Fellow / Language Researcher / Assistant (Mandarin, French, Portuguese)

About the role

Midlands State University is seeking qualified candidates for three language‑focused academic positions: Research Fellow, Language Researcher and Research Assistant. Each post will specialize in one of the following languages: Mandarin, French or Portuguese.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct language‑specific research and consultancy.
• Design and submit innovative research proposals to secure external funding.
• Recruit clients for tutorials and other language services.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects (Researcher) and, for Fellows, postgraduate research as well.
• Participate in project, institute or university committee meetings.
• Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by the Executive Director or senior staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant language, literature, linguistics or translation fields for Research Assistant positions.
• Master’s degree in related language research areas for Language Researcher positions.
• PhD in language documentation, corpus linguistics, language policy/planning or educational technology for language learning for Research Fellow positions.
• Demonstrated fluency in spoken and written Mandarin, French or Portuguese, depending on the language stream.
