Nutanix Engineer / Networking IT Support Engineer (Break & Fix)

About the role

An experienced Nutanix engineer and networking IT support engineer is sought to provide break-and-fix support for enterprise infrastructure. This is a freelance, on-call position based in Harare, Zimbabwe, with low priority. The successful candidate diagnoses, troubleshoots and resolves hardware, network and infrastructure incidents while keeping a high standard of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide onsite and remote break-and-fix support for networking and infrastructure incidents.
• Deploy, configure and manage Nutanix HCI environments (AOS, AHV, Prism).
• Perform system upgrades, patching and lifecycle management.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, virtualization and network issues, including TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS and DHCP.
• Implement and support backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Respond to critical incidents and service requests within agreed response times.
• Collaborate with global and regional teams on infrastructure and cloud projects.
• Maintain technical documentation, incident reports and service records.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure, virtualization, networking or IT support engineering.
• Valid CCNA certification and at least 90% pass score on the induction assessment.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work independently in customer-facing environments with a professional demeanor.

Required skills

• Nutanix ecosystem (AOS, AHV, Prism) and VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing and switching.
• Proven break-and-fix support in enterprise settings.
• Backup and disaster recovery solutions; scripting with PowerShell and/or Python is advantageous.
• Preferred: Nutanix certification (NCP or higher), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Ansible and Terraform.
