Instrument Technician – Class 2

About the role

Valterra Platinum is seeking a Class 2 Instrument Technician to join the Unki Mine team in Shurugwi, Zimbabwe. The role focuses on maintaining, operating, repairing and optimising control systems, instrumentation and related mechanical components to ensure safe and reliable mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out safe maintenance tasks that support production performance.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure all safety devices are operational.
• Conduct risk assessments, attend breakdowns and emergencies, and keep checklists and inspections up to date.
• Complete job cards, record work performed and spare parts used.
• Ensure availability of materials, spares and equipment required for maintenance.
• Supervise and coach sub‑ordinates and apprentices, providing on‑the‑job training.
• Install, calibrate and maintain instrumentation equipment such as sensors, transmitters, gauges and controllers.
• Diagnose and repair faults in control systems and mechanical instrumentation.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on control and instrumentation (C&I) equipment.

Required profile

• Experience working with instrumentation and control systems in a mining environment.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and follow safety regulations.
• Competence in completing maintenance documentation and job cards.
• Capability to supervise and train junior staff or apprentices.

Required skills

• Instrumentation equipment installation and calibration (sensors, transmitters, gauges, controllers).
• Control systems troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
• Preventive maintenance of C&I equipment.
• Use of appropriate mechanical and electrical tools for maintenance tasks.
