Graduate Trainee – Alumni Relations

About the role

The Alumni Relations Unit at Midlands State University is looking for a motivated graduate trainee to support alumni engagement, communications and resource mobilisation. This full‑time, fixed‑term position offers hands‑on experience in designing digital content and coordinating alumni events.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with alumni engagement initiatives, communications, and resource mobilisation activities.
• Provide administrative support, including correspondence, record‑keeping and follow‑up for alumni programmes.
• Help monitor and report on alumni engagement metrics.
• Design and produce visual materials such as flyers, social media graphics, newsletters, banners and presentation slides.
• Develop and manage content for the university’s website, social media channels and email communications.
• Support the planning and execution of alumni events, webinars and reunions, including pre‑ and post‑event communications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:1) in Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, IT, Graphic Design, Multimedia or a related field.
• Graduated within the last two years.
• Relevant certifications in digital content creation, graphic design, video editing, social media management or web content management are an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva for graphic design.
• Experience using social media management tools.
• Knowledge of web content management systems.
• Familiarity with email marketing or newsletter platforms.
• Basic understanding of CRM or alumni database systems.
• Ability to use video editing software.
