Head of Loss Control – Retail

About the role

The Head of Loss Control will lead the risk and loss prevention function for a retail organisation, ensuring that internal controls, audit processes and compliance measures effectively protect assets and minimise financial exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, assess and mitigate operational, financial and regulatory risks across the company and its departments.
• Develop and execute a systematic, risk‑based internal audit programme, including annual audit planning, high‑value/high‑risk area prioritisation, and stock‑take audits.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive audit reports covering compliance, financial, operational and forensic audits.
• Lead investigations into employee misconduct or criminal activity, coordinate with legal teams and manage any ensuing judicial actions.
• Ensure management accountability for losses such as theft, fraud and damages, and provide monthly effectiveness reports to the Loss Control Executive Committee.
• Oversee regulatory, industry‑standard and internal policy compliance, and manage insurance claims and assessments to protect against under‑insurance.

Required profile

• Degree in Forensics, Police Studies or a related field.
• Certified Fraud Examiner credential or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in loss prevention, security or a related discipline, preferably within a retail environment.
• Strong analytical, observational and communication abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

• Knowledge of audit methodologies and risk‑assessment techniques.
• Understanding of regulatory and industry compliance requirements.
• Experience in fraud examination and investigation processes.
