About the role
The National Gallery of Zimbabwe seeks a senior leader to direct its curatorial services. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent will shape the artistic vision, oversee research, and coordinate exhibitions that highlight Zimbabwean and African modern and contemporary art.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and manage the curatorial department, including staff supervision.
- Conduct scholarly research on contemporary art with an emphasis on Zimbabwean and African contexts.
- Develop and implement the Gallery’s long‑range exhibition schedule, approving proposals 2–3 years in advance.
- Oversee the production of 4–6 exhibitions per year, including scholarly catalogues and touring arrangements.
- Collaborate with Deputy Directors, Board Committees, and the Exhibitions Office on artistic vision, public programmes, and budget tracking.
- Maintain active relationships with artists, collectors, donors, and the broader art community.
Required profile
- Extensive curatorial experience in a museum or gallery setting.
- Strong scholarly credentials in modern and contemporary art, particularly African art.
- Proven leadership and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Visible presence in national, regional, and international art networks.
