About the role

The Department of Governance and Public Management at Midlands State University seeks a qualified academic to join the faculty in Local Governance/Public Management. The role encompasses teaching, research, university service, innovation and industrialisation activities, with the appointment level (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor) determined by the candidate’s credentials and achievements.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials for modules such as Principles of Monitoring and Evaluation, Information Systems and E‑Government, Project Planning, and Public Sector Management Information Systems.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
• Conduct active research in public administration or local governance and publish in reputable journals.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university committees, workshops, conferences and community engagement activities.
• Contribute to innovation initiatives and the commercialisation of research outcomes.

Required profile

• A first degree (minimum 2:1) in Politics, Public Management, Local Governance or Administration.
• A Master’s degree in Public Administration, Local Governance or related field.
• A PhD in Public Administration, Local Governance or Public Management.
• At least two years of relevant teaching experience (or a recognized teaching qualification).
• At least two publications in reputable academic journals (advantageous).
