Underground Mechanical Mining Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Underground Mechanical Mining Engineer to join a leading gold mining operation. The role is hands‑on, focusing on the maintenance, repair and reliability of critical underground mechanical equipment to support safe and efficient production.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair and reliability of underground equipment such as hoists, pumps, compressors, conveyors and other plant assets.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime and maximise production.
• Plan and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance programmes for underground equipment.
• Supervise and lead underground mechanical maintenance teams, ensuring safe and efficient work execution.
• Ensure compliance with statutory safety and mining regulations.
• Collaborate with mining operations to meet production targets through high equipment availability.
• Manage maintenance resources, spare parts, contractors and equipment performance.
• Conduct underground inspections and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in underground mining with strong exposure to mechanical equipment.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing underground hoists, pumps, compressors and heavy mining plant.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage underground maintenance teams.
• Valid Mine Blasting Licence / Full Blasting Licence.
• Millwright qualification or a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in underground gold mining operations is an advantage.
• Physical capability to work in a demanding underground environment and willingness to undergo a pre‑employment physical assessment.
