Technician – IT & Broadcasting Support (Bulawayo)

About the role

The university is seeking a Technician to provide first‑line IT and broadcasting support to academic staff, administrators, and students in Bulawayo. The role combines routine software maintenance with hands‑on assistance for multimedia and e‑learning environments.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver first‑line technical support for software, hardware, and networking issues.
• Diagnose, resolve, and document software installation, configuration, and usage problems.
• Escalate complex incidents to specialised IT teams when required.
• Install, configure and update applications on university computers.
• Maintain multimedia equipment such as projectors, smart boards, microphones, speakers and video‑conferencing systems.
• Support e‑learning platforms (Moodle, Google Classroom, Edurole) and student information systems.
• Prepare and maintain radio, TV broadcasting and livestreaming equipment for practical sessions.
• Conduct training sessions, create user guides and assist with data‑protection policy training.
• Supervise and train Technical Assistants.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (2:2 or higher) in IT, Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
• Minimum three years post‑qualification experience in a similar support role.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Accountability to the Department Chairperson.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience using Audacity and DaVinci Resolve.
• Familiarity with livestreaming software.
• Knowledge of Moodle, Google Classroom and Edurole platforms.
• Hands‑on experience with projectors, smart boards, microphones, speakers and video‑conferencing systems.
