Chief Technician – IT Support and Lab Equipment

About the role

A full-time Chief Technician position is open in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, within a faculty where the role provides first-line information technology support to staff and students and maintains computer equipment and laboratory assets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first-line IT-related support to staff members and students in the Faculty.
• Help keep the local area network running smoothly by configuring network points, providing cabling solutions and troubleshooting problems.
• Maintain inventory and update software settings.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose basic problems with computer equipment.
• Repair and maintain computer equipment in the Faculty.
• Enforce procedures for the use of equipment, supplies, software and hardware in the computer laboratory.
• Ensure the security and safety of laboratory assets.
• Maintain and control equipment and software in laboratories and offices within the Faculty.

Required profile

• First degree in Computer Science, Electronics or Information Technology, or equivalent, plus at least five years of post-qualification experience; or a Master's degree in the same fields plus at least two years of post-qualification experience.
• Good technical troubleshooting, problem-solving and administrative skills.
• Good interpersonal communication and student-handling skills.
