Technical Support & Lab Technician – Statistical Software

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Technician to provide technical support for statistical and computational activities within an academic department in Zvishavane. The role involves assisting staff and students while maintaining laboratory and IT infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain statistical, mathematical and actuarial software packages such as R, Python, MATLAB and specialised tools.
• Provide technical support during practical classes, research projects, examinations and departmental events.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, computers, printers, networking devices and audiovisual systems.
• Assist with procurement, inventory management and upkeep of laboratory consumables.
• Support setup and maintenance of departmental servers, databases and online teaching platforms.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment, software licences, maintenance schedules and laboratory usage.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Chairperson of the Department.

Required profile

• An Honours degree (minimum 2.1) in Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Applied Statistics or a related field from a recognised institution.

Required skills

• Proficiency with R, Python, MATLAB, Mathematica and Maple.
• Experience in installing, configuring and maintaining software packages.
• Knowledge of server administration, networking devices and audiovisual equipment.
• Ability to manage laboratory equipment and inventory.
