Systems Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to design, develop and maintain complex application, system and network solutions for Old Mutual’s African operations. The role involves third‑line escalation, infrastructure modernization and ensuring security and compliance across our data‑center and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and select medium‑complexity storage, data‑center, network and client/server environments in line with industry best practice.
• Provide third‑line escalation support for global infrastructure solutions.
• Deliver digital solution architecture services, creating conceptual and logical diagrams for future‑state architectures.
• Maintain enterprise architecture artifacts and support business‑requirements gathering through interviews, document and workflow analysis.
• Document “as‑is” and “to‑be” processes and contribute to migration planning.
• Conduct horizon scanning and feasibility studies to assess emerging technologies and their impact.
• Implement information‑security measures such as firewalls and encryption, and monitor performance.
• Identify and report instances of non‑compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory codes.
• Research and recommend technical developments to improve portals, software and supporting infrastructure.
• Develop personal capabilities through training, coaching and professional accreditation.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and developing solutions for complex application, system administration and network challenges.
• Ability to produce conceptual and logical architecture diagrams aligned with technical direction.
• Experience gathering and analysing business requirements and documenting process changes.
• Familiarity with security controls, compliance reporting and regulatory standards.
• Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining relevant professional certifications.
