Shop Manager

About the role

The Shop Manager will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the university supermarket, ensuring safety and quality standards are met while monitoring staff performance. The role requires keeping business activities running smoothly and maintaining a high level of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all product lines are supplied in the right quality and quantity.
• Monitor employee attendance, performance and productivity.
• Manage marketing, supplies and sales of all goods.
• Provide backup service during peak periods by assisting with queues, queries and product delivery.
• Ensure staff adhere to terms of reference and that operations meet set standards.
• Monitor daily product quality presented to customers.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of staff and the shop.
• Safeguard cash takings and ensure safe banking per procedure.
• Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts.
• Determine staffing requirements based on production schedules.
• Oversee safety of the supermarket and staff by inspecting equipment and facilities.
• Evaluate employee performance through regular assessments and meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum a degree in Business Management, Marketing, Business Studies or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in a managerial position within the retail industry.
• Clean Class 4 driver’s licence.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
