About the role
The Herding for Health Project Manager will lead the Maramani programme, a three‑year fixed‑term initiative aimed at reducing livestock‑wildlife conflict and restoring rangelands across the Greater Mapungubwe Trans Frontier Conservation Area. Reporting to the Chief Community Development Officer, the role requires a strong field presence and hands‑on leadership to ensure delivery against the Grant Agreement.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a regular onsite presence, supporting implementation at grazing sites, bomas, restoration activities and community engagements.
- Work closely with the Implementation Manager to resolve operational challenges such as stewardship agreements, grazing disputes and enterprise activation.
- Co‑lead major milestones including farmer mobilisation, Community Based Organisation establishment, enterprise launches and restoration campaigns.
- Monitor project plans, budgets and deliverables, identify delays early and take corrective action.
- Provide visible leadership to build trust with site teams, professional herders and local communities.
- Set strategic direction, approve site work plans and ensure alignment with the Herding for Health model.
- Escalate material risks, delays and scope changes to senior management and obtain Grantor approval when required.
- Build and maintain relationships with the Grantor, local authorities, ZimParks, traditional leaders and community governance structures.
Required profile
- Significant experience in project management, preferably in agriculture, livestock or conservation programmes.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in remote, field‑based environments.
- Strong analytical skills to track budgets, timelines and performance indicators.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to travel frequently within the Beitbridge District and work on-site for extended periods.
