Executive Director – National Pathology, Research & Diagnostic Centre

About the role

Midlands State University is seeking a visionary leader to head its National Pathology, Research and Diagnostic Centre. Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Innovation and Industrialisation, the Executive Director will shape strategy, ensure high‑quality diagnostic services and drive research excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for pathology, diagnostic, research and support services.
• Ensure delivery of patient‑centred, efficient, and reliable diagnostic services.
• Develop and implement operational and business plans aligned with university goals.
• Oversee financial sustainability, budgeting, revenue growth and cost management.
• Promote innovation, continuous improvement and research excellence.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory, accreditation and quality standards.
• Build and nurture relationships with government, regulators, healthcare institutions, donors and partners.
• Lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams to achieve high performance.

Required profile

• Postgraduate qualification in Pathology, Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Health Sciences, Healthcare Management or related field.
• At least 5 years senior management experience in pathology, laboratory, radiology or related healthcare environment.
• Proven experience in strategic leadership, financial management, governance and operational oversight.
• Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement, partnership development and business growth.
• Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, quality systems and accreditation standards.
