Research Medical Officer

About the role

The Africa Clinical Research Network (ACRN) is seeking a Research Medical Officer to deliver direct patient care while ensuring the safe, compliant execution of clinical research studies across Africa. This clinically autonomous position blends hands‑on medical assessment with oversight of multidisciplinary research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical care, assessments and medical decision‑making for study participants.
• Monitor participant safety, manage adverse and serious adverse events.
• Maintain accurate, timely and legally sound clinical and research documentation.
• Support protocol implementation, including screening, enrolment and follow‑up activities.
• Offer medical input to investigators and study teams on clinical issues.
• Contribute to audit, inspection and quality‑readiness activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) with a valid practising certificate.
• Strong documentation and record‑keeping discipline.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary research teams.
• Risk awareness and safety‑focused clinical decision‑making.
• Professional communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to rapidly learn new tools, SOPs and regulatory requirements.
• Detail‑oriented, curious and adaptable.
