About the role
We are seeking a recent Electrical/Electronic Engineering graduate to join our R&D team in Harare. The project focuses on developing a laboratory prototype for equipment‑level automatic power‑factor compensation targeting industrial and mining applications.
Key responsibilities
- Design and simulate power‑factor compensation systems using laboratory three‑phase induction‑motor loads.
- Develop voltage and current sensing circuits and implement active, reactive, and apparent power measurement.
- Create PWM generation and control algorithms for power‑electronic converters.
- Program embedded/DSP controllers and build hardware prototypes.
- Collect experimental data, analyse results, and compare equipment‑level versus centralized compensation approaches.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
- 0–1 year of experience; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Basic knowledge of power electronics, electrical machines and control systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and datasheets.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a hands‑on attitude.
Required skills
- Power electronics fundamentals.
- Control systems and PWM generation.
- DSP‑based control implementation.
- MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM or LTspice for simulation.
- Embedded programming for microcontrollers (e.g., TI C2000, STM32, Arduino).
- PCB design and hardware prototyping.
- Use of oscilloscopes, multimeters and current/voltage probes.
