National One Health & AMR Coordinator

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a National One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Coordinator to serve as the principal focal point for One Health and AMR activities under the Pandemic Fund project in Zimbabwe. The incumbent will support the country’s health security agenda by strengthening coordination, governance, surveillance and laboratory capacities across animal, human, wildlife and environmental sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of the Pandemic Fund activities and ensure alignment with the national One Health and AMR strategies.
• Develop and monitor annual work plans, implementation schedules and reporting mechanisms.
• Facilitate multisectoral collaboration among ministries, veterinary services, health authorities, environmental agencies, academia and development partners.
• Support the execution of Zimbabwe’s National Action Plan on AMR and the development of integrated AMR surveillance systems.
• Strengthen laboratory quality, biosafety and biosecurity systems and promote zoonotic disease surveillance.
• Contribute to workforce development, capacity building and stakeholder engagement for pandemic preparedness.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, veterinary medicine, epidemiology, environmental health or a related field.
• Proven experience in One Health coordination, AMR governance or integrated disease surveillance.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government ministries, international agencies and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical, reporting and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of AMR surveillance methodologies and laboratory quality standards.
• Familiarity with One Health frameworks and multisectoral coordination mechanisms.
