About the role

The Sports and Recreation Department at Midlands State University is seeking a Swimming Lifesaver for its Gweru campus. The role involves ensuring the safety of swimmers, delivering swimming instruction, and supporting the university’s competitive and recreational aquatic programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide certified lifeguard coverage during all pool operations.
• Monitor pool activities, intervene in emergencies, and administer first‑aid or lifesaving procedures as needed.
• Conduct structured swimming lessons for beginners, intermediate and advanced swimmers.
• Develop personalised training plans for athletes aiming to compete in university and inter‑varsity events.
• Inspect pool facilities daily for health and safety compliance and report any issues.
• Organise swimming events, inter‑departmental competitions and recreational programmes.
• Enforce pool rules, perform regular water‑quality checks and collaborate with maintenance staff.
• Deliver educational sessions on water safety, technique and injury prevention.

Required profile

• Valid Lifesaving Certification and at least one year of lifeguarding experience.
• Strong swimming ability and capability to respond calmly under pressure.
• Background or interest in sports and recreation.
• Good public‑relations skills and professional conduct.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
