Sub-Librarian – Main Library Client Services

About the role

The Sub-Librarian will lead the Client Services area of the Main Library, delivering specialised information support to staff and students and contributing to the university’s teaching, research and community‑engagement goals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing library policies, SOPs and quality manuals.
• Manage collection development, acquisition and weeding of physical and electronic resources aligned with the curriculum.
• Provide high‑level reference, research assistance and information‑literacy training, including copyright and academic‑integrity guidance.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Client Services section, including circulation desk and inter‑library loans.
• Identify, recommend and implement emerging library technologies and electronic resource management systems.
• Manage operational risks, internal controls and compliance with university library standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent combination with an HND).
• At least three years of post‑qualification experience in a university library at Assistant Librarian or Senior Assistant Librarian level.
• Understanding of Education 5.0 philosophy and its application to library services.
• Strong communication, supervisory and leadership abilities.
