Research Assistant – Executive Director’s Office

About the role

The Tugwi Mukosi Multidisciplinary Research Institute (TMMRI) at Midlands State University is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Executive Director’s Office. The role involves contributing to ongoing research projects in rural development and agri‑business, ensuring high‑quality data handling, analysis, and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, enter, clean, and manage research data sets to ensure accuracy.
• Conduct literature reviews, summarising relevant publications for project teams.
• Perform data analysis and prepare reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and prepare field samples as required.
• Handle project correspondence, monitor budgets, and attend project meetings.
• Draft grant proposals to secure funding for specific research initiatives.
• Undertake any additional duties essential to the Institute’s research activities.

Required profile

• First degree in Rural and Urban Development, Rural Development, or Agrobusiness Management and Entrepreneurship with at least a 2.1 classification.
• Minimum three years of post‑graduate experience working in a research environment.
