Research Assistant – Environmental Management

About the role

The Tugwi Mukosi Multidisciplinary Research Institute (TMMRI) at Midlands State University seeks a dedicated Research Assistant to support its environmental management projects. This full‑time position involves hands‑on data work, literature synthesis, and contribution to scientific publications.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, enter, clean and maintain research databases ensuring data accuracy.
• Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and summarise findings for project teams.
• Perform statistical or qualitative data analysis and prepare reports, presentations, and manuscript drafts.
• Support field and laboratory activities, including equipment maintenance and sample preparation.
• Manage project correspondence, monitor budgets, and attend regular project meetings.
• Draft grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing and new research initiatives.
• Undertake any additional duties essential to the institute’s research agenda.

Required profile

• First‑degree (minimum 2:1) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Environmental Health.
• At least three years of postgraduate experience in a research environment.
• Strong written communication skills for report and manuscript preparation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
