Research Assistant – Climate Change (Full‑time)

About the role

The Tugwi Mukosi Multidisciplinary Research Institute at Midlands State University seeks a motivated Research Assistant to support its climate‑change projects. This full‑time position involves hands‑on data work, literature synthesis, and contribution to research outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, enter, clean and manage research data sets.
• Conduct systematic literature reviews and summarise findings.
• Perform data analysis and prepare reports, presentations and manuscripts for publication.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, prepare field samples and support land/field operations.
• Handle project correspondence, monitor budgets and attend project meetings.
• Draft grant proposals to secure funding for specific research activities.
• Undertake any additional duties essential to the Institute’s research agenda.

Required profile

• First degree (minimum 2:1) in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Science, Resilience or Livelihoods.
• At least three years of post‑graduate experience in a research environment.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to gender parity and equal‑opportunity principles.
