Regional Legal Advisor – Africa

About the role

The Regional Legal Advisor for Africa will provide legal advice and guidance to business functions across multiple African countries, supporting Pyxus affiliates in Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The role involves mitigating legal risks, ensuring compliance with operating guidelines, and supporting business objectives through expert legal counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Research and monitor applicable laws in each country covering corporate governance, taxation, industrial relations, health & safety, immigration, and more.
• Consult with the Regional Legal Officer to align on legal interpretations and required actions.
• Provide legal advice to Country Managing Directors, General Managers, Department Heads and other officers upon request.
• Engage external counsel on specialist matters and draft or review legal agreements and contracts.
• Maintain a register of regional legal cases and ensure quarterly litigation reports are received.
• Participate in litigation strategy formulation with external counsel.
• Coordinate with the Corporate Compliance Officer and serve as Local Compliance Manager where applicable.
• Ensure company secretarial records are properly maintained and operating guidelines are complied with before signatures.
