Optical Transmission Engineer

About the role

Huawei Zimbabwe is seeking an Optical Transmission Engineer to lead the delivery and maintenance of its optical network infrastructure. The role combines onsite project leadership with remote network optimization to ensure high‑performance, stable services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead onsite project delivery, supervising transmission engineers and ensuring successful implementation of optical network products.
• Perform network maintenance, fault location, troubleshooting and optimization to improve performance and reliability.
• Conduct remote network evaluation, planning, design and reporting for customers and professional service projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with solid knowledge of SDH, WDM, PTN and ASON technologies.
• Deep understanding of optical transmission fundamentals such as fiber, OSNR, dispersion and PMD.
• Proven ability to independently deliver, commission and test long‑distance backbone WDM and 40G/100G WDM networks.
• Experience in evaluating, optimizing and designing OTN and hybrid MSTP solutions.
