About the role
SANY is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive in‑house legal and compliance support across Southern Africa, primarily in Zimbabwe. The role will ensure compliance with legislation, mitigate legal risk, and deliver commercially sound advice to support business operations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial and operational matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including supplier, customer, service and employment contracts.
- Support corporate governance activities such as board resolutions, policies and internal controls.
- Identify, assess and mitigate legal and compliance risks.
- Ensure compliance with Zimbabwean legislation (Companies Act, POPIA, labour law, industry regulations).
- Coordinate compliance across other Southern African jurisdictions with external advisors.
- Develop, implement and monitor internal compliance frameworks, policies and procedures.
- Conduct compliance reviews, internal audits and address gaps.
- Manage relationships with regulatory authorities and external legal counsel.
- Oversee external counsel across multiple jurisdictions to control risk and costs.
- Support cross‑border contracts, disputes, regulatory matters and litigation coordination.
- Maintain legal and compliance registers, records and reporting dashboards.
- Deliver compliance guidance, training and awareness initiatives to internal stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission as a Legal Practitioner in Zimbabwe (or eligibility).
- 3‑5 years post‑admission experience in commercial, labour or general legal practice.
- Experience in an in‑house legal department or multinational company is advantageous.
- Experience within a similar industry or a Chinese‑owned company is a strong advantage.

- Advanced contract drafting and negotiation skills.
