Lecturer, Teaching Assistant and Ventilation Technician Vacancies – Mining Engineering

About the role

Midlands State University’s Faculty of Engineering and Geosciences is recruiting qualified professionals for three academic and technical positions within the Department of Mining Engineering at the Zvishavane Campus. The roles include Lecturer, Teaching Assistant, and Ventilation Technician, each contributing to teaching, research, and operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials for Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering modules such as Mine Survey and GIS, Professional Ethics, Practice and Engineering Management, Mineral Resource Evaluation, Mine Machinery and Materials Handling, Computer Applications in Mining, and Surface Mining Technology.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects, assess work‑related learning, and evaluate student performance.
• Engage in active research, innovation, and potential commercialisation of mining technologies.
• Support student research projects, mark assignments and tests, and assist with teaching at least three designated modules.
• For the Ventilation Technician, apply mine ventilation and environmental engineering knowledge to maintain safe ventilation systems and support related operational tasks as assigned by the department chair.

Required profile

• Lecturer: First degree in Mining Engineering (upper second class) plus a Master’s degree; PhD is an advantage.
• Teaching Assistant: First degree in Mining Engineering or related field (minimum 2.1), age 28 or below, and enrollment in a relevant Master’s programme within the first year of employment.
• Ventilation Technician: Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Mine Ventilation and Environmental Engineering with at least two years of relevant experience.
