Humanitarian Services Program Specialist

About the role

The Humanitarian Services Program Specialist supports the Welfare and Self‑Reliance Department in delivering humanitarian projects across assigned regions. Reporting to the Area Humanitarian Manager in Harare, the role combines project planning, construction oversight, and coordination with internal and external partners to alleviate suffering and promote self‑reliance.

Key responsibilities

• Implement humanitarian projects in line with the five‑year area plan and global Church priorities.
• Coordinate logistics, procurement, and execution with NGOs, local officials, and internal departments.
• Prepare project documentation, collect data, and produce transparent reports.
• Manage budgeting, procurement, and compliance under guidance of the Area Humanitarian Manager.
• Oversee construction projects, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and safety compliance.
• Identify and mitigate risk factors (HSE, environmental, cultural, financial, operational).
• Develop and maintain project schedules, phase plans, and use Church tools for tracking and communication.
• Support monitoring and evaluation activities to assess outcomes and recommend improvements.
• Supervise and train humanitarian missionaries in project execution.

Required profile

• Ability to address moderately complex problems using established procedures.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate options and recommend solutions.
• Capacity to work independently on routine tasks while receiving direction on priorities.
• Experience supervising and training team members in humanitarian contexts.
• Awareness of humanitarian trends and best practices.
