Data Capture Clerk

About the role

Midlands State University is seeking a Data Capture Clerk to support its health services department. The role involves entering patient information, managing medical aid claims, and assisting with general administrative duties in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Capture patient details at the point of first contact using electronic systems or manual filing.
• Compile and collate departmental data, generate statistical reports and performance measurements.
• Complete and submit medical aid claim forms, prepare Excel summaries, and follow up with providers.
• Reconcile paid, rejected, and pending claims and negotiate payment plans with providers or patients.
• Assist the secretary with reception duties, including filing, phone handling, typing, printing and photocopying.
• Verify student/staff IDs and medical aid cards for individuals requiring treatment.

Required profile

• Minimum of five Ordinary Level passes.
• Diploma in Health Records Management, Secretarial Studies, or equivalent.
• At least two years of relevant experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Experience handling medical aid claims and using health software such as Health 263; knowledge of ICD‑10 coding is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
