Communications Officer – University (ZVishavane)

About the role

The Communications Officer will join the Marketing and Communications Department of Midlands State University, based in ZVishavane. The role focuses on creating, editing and distributing compelling content that showcases the university’s activities, achievements and brand across both print and digital platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Write, edit and produce content for scripts, annual reports, newsletters, press releases and social media.
• Research, write and publish news articles covering university events and milestones.
• Develop and implement social‑media strategies to increase online engagement and visibility.
• Draft internal and external corporate communications ensuring consistent messaging and branding.
• Represent the university at events, conferences and other public forums.
• Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication initiatives, adjusting tactics as needed.

Required profile

• First‑degree qualification in English and Communication or Media Studies.
• Minimum of one year proven experience in a similar communications or marketing role, preferably within a corporate or academic setting.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with strong grammar and storytelling ability.
• Proactive, self‑motivated and able to work collaboratively across departments.
• Detail‑oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and make sound decisions under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with design tools such as Canva and CapCut.
• Solid understanding of digital marketing, social‑media platforms and content management systems.
• Strong editing and proofreading capabilities.
