Senior Library Assistant – 2 Positions

About the role

The Senior Library Assistant will support the delivery of efficient, customer‑focused library services to staff, students and the wider university community. Working at the circulation desk, the role ensures smooth handling of library transactions and assists patrons in accessing resources.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all library transactions and operations at the circulation desk.
• Charge and discharge materials using the Koha Library Management System.
• Assist users with the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and locate items on the open shelf and core collections.
• Participate in periodic stocktakes and support collection development initiatives.
• Provide assistance for student orientation programmes and community engagement activities.
• Perform circulation duties during day, weekends and night as required.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Library and Information Science.
• At least five Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language.
• Minimum two years of relevant experience as a Library Assistant or higher in an academic library.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Koha Library Management System.
• Experience using an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
• Ability to manage library circulation operations.
