Registrar for International Arbitration Centre

About the role

The Victoria Falls International Arbitration Centre (VFIAC) is seeking a founding Registrar to lead its newly established institution. This senior legal professional will oversee all arbitration, mediation and related dispute‑resolution processes, ensuring independence, neutrality and procedural fairness.

Key responsibilities

• Exercise statutory and case‑administration functions under S.I. 66 of 2026 and the Centre’s rules.
• Constitute Arbitral Tribunals and Appeals Tribunals and appoint arbitrators when parties fail to nominate.
• Direct and oversee impartial, efficient and timely management of arbitrations, appeals, mediations and other proceedings.
• Lead operationalisation, strategic development and institutional leadership of VFIAC.
• Develop and enforce protocols for confidentiality, conflicts of interest, data protection, records management, cybersecurity and secure handling of case materials.
• Safeguard the independence and neutrality of the Centre.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised institution.
• Admission or ability to be registered as a legal practitioner, advocate, barrister or attorney in a recognised jurisdiction.
• Minimum ten years’ post‑qualification experience, including substantial work in international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration or complex commercial dispute resolution.
• At least five years’ senior leadership experience in a registrar, counsel, tribunal secretary, case‑management or comparable role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of international arbitration law, tribunal constitution, arbitrator independence, procedural fairness, confidentiality and award enforcement.
• Postgraduate qualification in international commercial law, arbitration, dispute resolution, financial services law or a related field.
