Library Assistant – Academic Library Support

About the role

The Midlands State University Library is hiring three Library Assistants to support daily operations and provide excellent service to students, staff, and visitors. You will play a vital role in maintaining the collection, handling circulation, and assisting patrons in accessing resources.

Key responsibilities

• Manage book loans and returns using the Koha Library Management System.
• Assist users in navigating the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
• Support patrons in locating materials from the Open Shelf, Reserve, and Core Collections.
• Perform shelving and shelf‑reading duties to keep the collection orderly.
• Carry out circulation tasks across day, weekend, and night shifts as needed.
• Identify and flag damaged items for binding or repair to maintain collection quality.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Library and Information Science.
• Five Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language.
• At least one year of relevant experience in an academic library.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Koha Library Management System.
