Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor (Actuarial Science)

About the role

Midlands State University is inviting applications for a single academic position within the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The successful candidate will join the Faculty of Science and Technology as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor, focusing on Actuarial Science and related finance subjects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials in accordance with departmental and faculty standards.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and assess work‑related learning.
• Engage in scholarly research that contributes to the university’s academic reputation.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and university service activities, including meetings, workshops and community outreach.
• Promote innovation and the commercialisation of research outcomes.

Required profile

• Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
• Master’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related discipline (or an Honours degree in Actuarial Science).
• Evidence of progress towards professional actuarial qualification (e.g., IFoA, SOA, ASSA) is an advantage.
• PhD qualification is desirable.
• Ability to teach at least three of the following subjects: Corporate Finance, Pensions and Benefit Insurance, Investment and Asset Liability Management, Financial Engineering, Finance and Investments, Principles of Financial Management, Healthcare Insurance, Life Contingencies.
