Data Engineer

About the role

Old Mutual is seeking a Data Engineer to design, implement, and maintain data integration processes within its actuarial data ecosystem. You will work with Delta Bricks, a Data Lake, and Bronze/Silver/Gold data tables to ensure reliable, high‑quality data for actuarial calculations, product pricing, financial reporting, and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end data ingestion pipelines using Python and related technologies.
• Create and manage ETL/ELT processes that move data through Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers while preserving data quality.
• Implement validation, cleansing, and reconciliation checks to guarantee data accuracy and completeness.
• Write, review, and maintain Python scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Manage version control and CI/CD practices for all data‑engineering codebases.
• Monitor pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimise code for scalability and fault tolerance.
• Collaborate with actuarial analysts, data scientists, and platform teams to align data solutions with business requirements and compliance standards.
• Document data flows, models, processes, and system configurations; provide technical guidance and training as needed.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve the data engineering environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in data engineering, data integration, or a similar role.
