Braille Transcriber / Embosser Operator

About the role

The Disability Resource Centre at Midlands State University’s Zvishavane campus is seeking a Braille Transcriber/Embosser Operator to support students with visual impairments. The role involves converting academic materials into Braille, operating embossing equipment, and providing day‑to‑day assistance to students with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Transcribe examination scripts, assignments, and tests into Braille.
• Produce Braille documents using an embosser.
• Assist students with daily academic tasks, including computer use, reading, registration, and invoice requests.
• Facilitate examination processes for students with special needs, preparing accessible papers and invigilating.
• Support students in sporting and club activities.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Coordinator.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, IT or a related field.
• Certificate in Computer Operations or Office Packages.
• Practical proficiency in Braille reading, transcription and embosser operation (assessment may be required).
• Additional qualification in Braille transcription or special‑needs support is advantageous.
