Academic Lecturer / Professor in Telecommunications & Applied Physics

About the role

Midlands State University is seeking a qualified academic to join the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics as a Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer. The successful candidate will teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in telecommunications and applied physics, while contributing to research, innovation and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions in at least three of the following areas: Mobile and Wireless Communications, Satellite Communications, Radio Access Networks, RF Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation.
• Develop and update curricula, assessment materials and research projects.
• Supervise student research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Engage with domestic and international industry and academic partners to foster collaborations.
• Participate in research, innovation, industrialisation and community‑engagement activities.

Required profile

• Honours degree (BSc) in Telecommunications, Physics, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation or a related field with at least a 2.1 classification.
• Master’s degree in Communications Engineering, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
• PhD or demonstrable progress towards a PhD in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field (preferred).
• University teaching experience (advantageous).
• Registration with a recognised professional engineering body (advantageous).

Required skills

• Proficiency with advanced RF simulation tools such as Keysight ADS and FEKO.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
